Every day there are children and families in the Allen, Lucas and Fairview area who are faced with the problems of hunger, inadequate clothing, job loss or the sudden inability to pay rent and utilities. For 22 years, Allen Community Outreach, a nonprofit organization, has been providing emergency assistance to help families recover from often devastating circumstances. The goal of ACO is to build self-sufficiency for each troubled family served.
After several years of planning, the ACO Board of Directors has taken an option to purchase a 14,000 square-foot building at 801 E. Main in Allen. The agency already leases 6,400 square-feet of this building for the Resale Shop. The building is easily accessible from all points within ACO’s coverage area and once purchased and renovated will serve as a "one-stop shop" for food and clothing assistance, counseling and referrals, and all of the agency’s programs.
The board has announced Transforming Lives: A campaign to Build Self-Sufficient Families with a goal of $2.5 million to purchase and renovate a new home for ACO.
