Holiday Adoption Program

2014~ Allen Community Outreach’s Christmas Adoption Program ~2014

Update, 1:30 pm Friday, December 12:  ALL CHILDREN, TEENS AND SENIORS ARE NOW ADOPTED!  If you would still like to participate, you can donate new, unwrapped gifts at First United Methodist Church Allen, located at 601 S. Greenville Ave.  Toys will be accepted today (Friday) until 6pm and Saturday, December 13 from 9am-6pm.

Thank you so much for your support and donations!

Each year, ACO asks the community to donate new, unwrapped toys, OR to “adopt” a child, teen, or senior for Christmas.  If you want to adopt, you, the Donor/Adopter, will be given the person’s wish list with clothing sizes and much needed items.  As the donor, you are asked to make someone’s holiday a little happier by purchasing new clothes and needs AND maybe a special item from their wish list. In consideration of everyone’s budget, we are asking that the total purchase price should not exceed $100.00.

All items must be delivered to ACO new and unwrapped. Throughout the year we provide families with vouchers to receive free gently-used items at ACO’s Resale Shop. Christmas may be the only time during the year they may receive clothing, shoes, and coats that are brand-new!

In addition to your purchases our *volunteer elves will add to your gift bag some toys and gifts donated by our community. The ACO TOYS FOR OUR TOTS Drive will run from November 28- December 12. New, unwrapped toys and gifts may be dropped off at all Allen Fire Stations and ACO, located at 801 E. Main St in Allen. We will add the age-appropriate toys to the gift bags that are returned.

*PLEASE NOTE - We have many wonderful toys donated that we can add to your bag and fulfill wish lists with games, toys, dolls, trucks and such for younger kids. If you have a specific request on a wish list and would like to make that purchase we appreciate it.  Let us add the Barbies, puzzles and books, action figures, etc.

 Here’s how you can participate:

1. Purchase a new unwrapped toy, age-appropriate teen gift, or special treat for a senior. Stocking stuffers are also needed for teens and seniors- such as gift cards, make-up, cologne, cookie tins, blankets, gloves and hats- and wrapping paper and tape! New bikes and helmets for all ages are also needed.

 2. Adopt a child, teen or senior (you can request the age and gender you’d prefer and we’ll do our best to match) and make sure they have warm clothes, shoes, bedding and other necessities this Christmas.

 ***Important Information for Adopting***

ACO continues to accept Christmas “adoptees” through December 8, 2014. Therefore, assignments will be made throughout the week of December 8th.   Donors are assigned an adoptee in the order they are received. Specific requests regarding the age/gender of your adoptee may delay the availability of your information packet.

After we receive your information, you will be matched with a recipient and contacted to pick up your packet.  Notifications will not begin until AFTER NOVEMBER 12, 2014. You will be called as soon as your packet has been assigned.  Packets will not be distributed before November 12, 2014 and will continue to be distributed through December 10, 2014.

Last year more than 500 individuals were helped through Allen Community Outreach’s Christmas Adoption Program.  With your participation as a donor or adopter, your donations of new toys, gift cards or cash donation, you can make this very special time of year a lasting memory for someone who otherwise would not experience the joy of the holiday season.

After your shopping is complete, please drop off all gifts in the bags provided in your packet with the identifying sticker attached .

Please do NOT  knot bags or leave unattended at church.

 YOU MUST Drop off at

First United Methodist Church of Allen, 601 S. Greenville Ave.

on Friday, Dec 12th and Saturday, Dec 13th, 9:00am-6:00pm

Please don’t disappoint someone this holiday by not returning your gift bag. If you find that you cannot make your donor commitment, ITS OK, just please just give the ACO office a call before December 12th so that we can reassign that person.

Involve your family, your civic & church groups, or your co-workers and share a sense of peace and joy this Christmas by sharing with someone who needs your help.

Please contact either Janis or Debbie if you have questions by calling 972-727-9131 or email  JChristie@acocares.org orDBush@acocares.org.  Thank you.
