ACO Food Pantry is on the go!

2014 05 10 - ACO - New Truck (3)What began with a $10,000 matching grant from the North Texas Food Bank for the purchase of a refrigerated truck for the ACO Food Pantry to expand their donation pick-ups of perishable foods has resulted in an ongoing plan to feed the community and prevent local hunger, with the focus on children.  In addition to the ability to pick up more local donations, the ACO Food Pantry uses the refrigerated truck, affectionately named “Gidget” to take food to undeserved areas in our communities. Every other week, Gidget is loaded with hundreds of bags of food and taken to the community of Branch, near the edge of Lake Lavon.  Each time, hundreds of families gratefully take a bag of food for their families.

The ACO Food Pantry feeds hundreds of local families each month, providing a shopping experience for clients to make choices from the shelves, produce section, bakery section and the frozen and refrigerated meat and dairy cases. Food for the pantry is provided from donations throughout the community, with the help of local donors- including individuals, businesses, schools, churches, civic groups and retailers like Walmart, Target, Market Street, Whole Foods, Sprouts,  Kroger, Super 1 Foods, and local restaurants.
